Lucid Lucia is the incarnation of BRZZVLL, the Antwerp-based band led by saxophonist Vincent Brijs and keyboard player Jan Willems. For over a decade, BRZZVLL built a reputation with groovy jazz-funk and collaborations with international artists such as Anthony Joseph and Amir Sulaiman. Lucid Lucia continues this journey with a renewed line-up and a fresh sound, blending cosmic jazz-funk, psychedelic world grooves, hip hop, and electronica, always driven by improvisation and raw live energy. With shows across Belgium and abroad, Lucid Lucia stays true to its roots: delivering music as an electrifying, boundary-pushing experience.
Lucid Lucia is:
Vincent Brijs – saxophones
Seba Colson – trumpet
DJ Grazzhoppa – turntables
Dries Laheye – bass
Jan Willems – keys

Inside the Cosmic Grooves of Lucid Lucia: Meet the Band Behind 'Bliss'
The Spiritual Leader: Vincent Brijs (Saxophone)
The founding father of BRZZVLL and the visionary behind Lucid Lucia, Vincent (who has played with the legendary US avant-garde funk outfit Defunkt) handles much of the band's composition and practical management. His soulful, commanding saxophone remains the structural anchor of the music, brilliantly bridging raw improvisational energy with sharp, memorable arrangements.
The Production Powerhouse: Jan Willems (Keyboards)
Jan is the sonic architect of the band. On stage, he commands everything from deep Hammonds and futuristic clavinets to vocoders and talkboxes. Behind the scenes, he is the primary producer; the band's hypnotic tracks are born right in his specialized basement studio, Studio KipKaas, where Jan crafts a massive database of beats, grooves, and pre-productions that the band uses to build their expansive soundscapes. Jan's resume includes collaborations with world-renowned acts like Zap Mama&KZIA and a lot of the 'Nuff Said Live musical guests like Brother Ali, Shakuar and Rico.
The Sonic Disruptor: DJ Grazzhoppa (Turntables & Samples)
A true icon of the Belgian hip-hop scene who has toured with the Black Lives Matter project, Grazzhoppa pushes Lucid Lucia into entirely new territories. Far beyond basic scratching, Grazz possesses an incredible musical ear. He samples the band's instruments live on stage, looping them on the fly and injecting vocal drops, classic hip-hop textures, and spacey, mysterious dimensions into the performance.
The Fresh Dynamic: Seba Colson (Trumpet)
The youngest member of the collective, Seba (known for his work with Unfinished Business and The Fela Kuti Celebration Band) brings a brilliant, soaring trumpet style to the group. Replacing the dual-saxophone sound of the past, Seba's pairing with Vincent forms a classic, hard-hitting horn section that adds immense color, sharp contrast, and a beautifully open dynamic to the live arrangements.
The Wonky Groove Master: Dries Laheye (Bass)
You might know Dries from his boundary-pushing work with Belgian heavyweights STUFF. and Selah Sue. He is a fiercely original bassist who consistently rejects the predictable. Dries brings an addictive, "wonky" bass style to the rhythm section, always searching for unexpected directions and inspiring the rest of the band to explore strange, magnificent new sonic landscapes.
The Rhythm Foundations: A Tale of Two Heavyweights
Depending on when and where you catch Lucid Lucia live, the drum throne is held down by one of two world-class percussion masters:
James Williams
Hailing from the US, James is the absolute king of "pocket" playing, having shared stages with Cleo Sol, Leon Bridges, Cory Henry, Sault & Amos Lee. He brings a highly specialized, hybrid setup to the stage, utilizing footpedal triggers, a cajon, and a bongo to create complex, irresistible rhythms.
Patrick Dorcean
A true global citizen originally from Haiti, Patrick is a premier working drummer across every genre imaginable, famously touring the world with the likes of Cargo Mas, Natalia, Zap Mama, and Prince's former bassist Ida Nielsen. He brings an explosive, driving, and rock-solid live energy that keeps the dancefloor moving.
We love to collaborate.
In fact, cross-cultural collaboration is embedded in our DNA. We are highly open and eager to team up with local artists. For years, we have honed our collaborative skills as the resident house band for 'Nuff Said, a renowned multidisciplinary event celebrating global music, spoken word, diversity, and civil rights. Starting out as BRZZVLL (the predecessor to Lucid Lucia), we have shared the stage and locked grooves with international heavyweights like The Last Poets, Brother Ali, Zap Mama, Tutu Puane, Amir Sulaiman, Selah Sue, and many more. We would be thrilled to bring this same unifying spirit and bridge our sound with the vibrant local jazz scene.
